Awards for outstanding performances were presented to four schools on the last day of this year’s Oldham Schools Music Festival.
All 51 schools, featuring 2,600 pupils — aged from preschool to sixth form — received certificates for taking part in 110 performances. Special awards were given to East Crompton St James Primary School, Thornham St James Primary School, Failsworth School and the Blue Coat School for their performances.
The presentations were made by Craig Dean, chief executive of Oldham company Web Applications UK, the festival sponsors.
The festival has showcased Oldham’s musical talent for 50 years. Oldham Music Centre’s director of music, Gerard Booth, said: “The fact that we had 51 schools taking part in the Schools Festival speaks for itself. It just shows what a thriving musical school community we have and what a musical place Oldham actually is. The children taking part enjoyed themselves enormously and so did the audience.”
