Council draws the line

COUNCIL chiefs are to get tough on “selfish” drivers who ignore double yellow lines intended to clear the road outside a busy supermarket.
Since the Manchester Superstore opened in Werneth on June 6, traffic problems have angered local residents and motorists. A front extension on the store has taken up car parking spaces which leaves customers and delivery vans parked parked on both sides of Chamber Road, causing huge delays.
On Tuesday morning double yellow lines were painted in the road. Yesterday a row of cars and delivery vans blatantly ignored the lines and signs warning no loading was allowed at any time.
Councillor Dave Hibbert, Cabinet member for housing, planning and transport, said: “It’s very disappointing to hear some selfish motorists are illegally parking and loading on the road. I’d urge them to think of the safety of others by acting responsibly.
“Enforcement officers are monitoring the area and we will take action against those parking illegally.”
