A KIND-HEARTED radio fan shocked thousands of listeners when he said on air he would be donating a competition prize worth £1,000 to Dr Kershaw’s Hospice.

Keith Tindall took part in Revolution 96.2 Radio’s “Gold Digger” competition, a three-week search for treasure buried in the area. The clues led Keith (63) to Oldham’s Alexandra Park on Friday, where he dug up more than £1,000 worth of designer jewellery.

But when interviewed by presenter Elliot Eastwick Keith, from Fitton Hill, said he would donate the entire prize to the Royton Hospice.

Keith, of Fir Tree Avenue, said: “I was taught you can’t miss what you haven’t got. As soon as I heard about the competition, I said if I found the prize, I’d donate it to charity. I went down to see if I was right and was the first one there.”

“There are a lot of people in the hospice who need help and who maybe don’t have a family looking after them. I could need their help at some point in my life and I’d like to think I’ve done something for them in some small way.”

Angela Higham, from Dr Kershaw’s fundraising team, said “We’re absolutely delighted”.

The station was inundated with calls from listeners praising Keith’s donation. Station MD Matt Ramsbottom said “Our office was in stunned silence as Keith made his emotional offer. It was a real surprise.”
