Rape charge

POLICE have charged a man from Failsworth with the rape and attempted rape of two women at their homes on Friday morning.
A manhunt was launched after police received reports of the incidents in Newton Heath and Failsworth and an arrest was made later that day.
Trevor Lawler (31), of Wesley Street, Failsworth, has been charged with rape, attempted rape, trespass with intent to commit a sexual offence and assault.
He was due to appear before Manchester & Salford Magistrates Court today. Shortly after 4.40am police received a report of an attempted rape on a 24-year-old woman while she was asleep in bed with her young son.
The victim’s boyfriend disturbed the man, who then fled the Newton Heath house.
The second attack took place at around 7am the same morning, when police received a report that a 33-year-old woman had been raped and assaulted at her home in Failsworth.
The woman, who was with her baby at the time, was taken to hospital with serious injuries. The baby was not injured.
