Cat attack horror
Date published: 13 July 2015
POLICE are investigating a “shocking act of cruelty” which saw a cat have its tail skinned from base to tip.
Kiwi was injured between 8.30am and 1pm on Wednesday before returning to its home in Fitton Hill.
The owner, mum-of-two Antonia Jenkinson, took the injured animal to the vet, however the tail could not be saved and an emergency amputation was needed.
The vet who treated Kiwi believed the injuries had been caused deliberately by a blade, rather than the result of an accident, and the police were contacted.
Antonia (24) said: “It’s just so cruel.
“I can’t believe anyone would deliberately do that to an animal.
“Kiwi is the most loving, trustworthy cat ever and is friendly to everyone.
“I let her out as normal yesterday morning and when she came back about lunchtime, I noticed she was being really timid.
“It was only when she came into the house that I saw her tail and what they’d done her.
“Her fur and skin was cut right down to the bone.”
Officers are urging anyone with information to come forward.
PC Mike Healey said: “This was a shocking act of cruelty on an animal that had been out before returning home.
“The cat was understandably in a lot of pain and the owner cannot believe someone would have attacked her pet in such a way.
“Due to the level of the injury, we believe someone must have seen or heard something and I would ask those who did to call police.”
Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
