DEATH rates at the Pennine Acute NHS Hospital Trust are as expected, new figures reveal.
The Trust, which runs the Royal Oldham, North Manchester General, Fairfield General and Rochdale Infirmary recorded 3,981 deaths in the first six months of last year, compared with 3,807 estimated deaths, a “SHMI” value of 1.046. Summary Hospital–level Mortality Indicator is the ratio between the actual number of patients who die either in hospital or within 30 days of discharge, and the average number who would be expected to die.
Of the 137 trusts in the figures, 11, including Tameside, had a higher than expected SHMI.
Tameside recorded 1,366 deaths, higher than the 1,188 estimated.
