Royton ATC scrambles to host cadets’ flying visit

HAPPY landing . . .the group of air cadets from around the world enjoyed a flying visit to the UK, including spending time with Royton Air Training Corps

JET-SETTING air cadets from across the world landed in Royton as part of a flying visit to the UK - and enjoyed a tour of the facilities available in the region.

The 44 cadets from 12 countries, including China, South Korea, the USA and Australia, visited 1855 Squadron Royton Air Training Corps as part of a two-week visit. The international cadets were welcomed to Royton ATC and given the chance to take part in sporting events and academic studies, as well as pitching a tent and learning field crafts. They were also treated to a trip to the Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire and had the chance to see the Royton squadron in action.

Commanding officer Steve Owen said: “I am really pleased Royton cadets have had this opportunity to present themselves to cadets outside the UK. Within the ATC’s 1,000 squadrons, Royton has consistently been in the top half per cent throughout its 75-year history. It’s very nice to be able to show the entire squadron off.”
