BEST foot forward . . . the trekkers who are off to the High Atlas Mountains
TREKKERS will be swapping the hills of Saddleworth for the mountains of Morocco in a fund-raising challenge for a local children’s Hospice.
In October the volunteers take the eight-day walking challenge to raise money for Francis House Children’s Hospice. The team includes six people from Oldham, all of whom have been testing their boots on a 14-mile organised walk round Saddleworth Moor to prepare.
The Rev David Ireland, minister of Oldham’s Union Street United Reformed Church and chief executive of the Francis House Children’s Hospice, will be taking part with his wife Judith and trek co-ordinator Howard Chambers.
“We are very grateful to all the trekkers. They have all paid for their own place and between them have already raised thousands of pounds in sponsorship.”
Francis House, in Didsbury, is a home from home in which children, young adults and their families can relax for short periods of respite care. All services are free.
