Greater Manchester Police’s website has been targeted by an internet hacker in Lithuania.
The force’s site went down at 8pm last night, though officers shortly afterwards reported on social media that it was back in action.
A short time later the site went down again, a Twitter user from Lithuania claiming responsibility.
The Manchester Airport website has since also been down with a further tweet from the same account suggesting responsibility.
Deputy Chief Constable Ian Hopkins from Greater Manchester Police said: “We are treating this as a malicious attempt to disrupt services.” He added that the data on the website was all public information
