£470 toffee paper penalty

A WOMAN seen throwing away a sweet wrapper in Oldham town centre is counting the cost: £470.
Nazeem Akhtar (26), of Hardy Street, Oldham was fined £200 at Oldham Magistrates Court and £270 costs for dropping the wrapper. She was one of four people ordered to fork out a total of £1,660 for dropping litter.
Fiona McGowan (54), of Hadfield Street, Hathershaw, Adrian Hill (50), of Dob Brook Close, Newton Heath, and David Orris (55), of Lower Lime Road, Limeside (55) were taken to court for dropping cigarette butts, and each received a £200 fine and costs totalling £590 between them.
