STARTING POINT: The Mayor sets the runners off on the Mayor’s Mile
THE Mayor of Oldham ignored the weight of his chain to lead the way in the Mayor’s Mile at Alexandra Park yesterday.
Competitors walked, ran, jogged, toddled and pushed the one-mile course to raise money for the Mayor’s charities – The Christie, Dr Kershaw’s, ACE Centre North and Oldham Action Fund.
The Mayor, Councillor Ateeque Ur-Rehman said: “I’m really delighted to be here on this wonderful day. I want to thank each and every person who came to participate.
“All the money raised will be going to my charities. Once again the people of Oldham have proven their generosity when it comes to giving money to good causes.”
