A NEW 45-bedroom waterside hotel could be coming to Chadderton if landowners can get planning permission.
Udunk Ltd wants to develop an area along the bank of the Rochdale Canal off Broadgate and Grimshaw Lane into a four-storey hotel, restaurant and car park. The hotel roof will even be able to hold parties in a marquee.
The site is close to the controversial £100 milion Foxdenton development of 210 new homes and a business park.
“The proposed development will create new jobs, and additional visitors to the area will generate income for local businesses in the wider area,” says the developer.
Terry McNicholas, owner of Udunk Ltd, said: “Location is the main reason we chose the site really. It’s quite a busy junction and there’s a lot of traffic from Mills Hill and Foxdenton Lane.
“I think the hotel will do really well there. There is a shortage of hotel rooms in Oldham and we are meeting this need. The council wants something aspirational for the site and I’m confident we’ve delivered that.”
