Oldham MP Debbie Abrahams has welcomed Jeremy Corbyn’s commitment to kinder, fairer politics.
The MP for Oldham East and Saddleworth praised the new Labour leader’s first speech at the party conference in Brighton.
Mrs Abrahams, who attended in her new role as shadow minister for disabled people, said: “Jeremy talked passionately about it being time for us to engage in grown-up politics as he set out how Labour will build a better, more caring and prosperous society based on the values of decency, justice and equality.
“It was so refreshing to hear him talk about building a new form of politics that involves genuine debate. A new approach to a kinder, fairer politics where people matter.
“In my new role as the shadow minister for disabled people I was also very pleased to hear Jeremy confirm that Labour will campaign against tax credit cuts, building on the announcement by shadow chancellor, John McDonnell, that Labour will oppose any further cuts that affect disabled people.
“It’s simply not right for this Government to try and build a recovery on the back of cutting support to disabled people.”
