A DISABLED man was taken to hospital after falling underneath a Metrolink tram in Westwood in the early hours of Saturday morning.
It is believed the man, thought to be in his 50s, fell from his mobility scooter close to Featherstall Road South and became stuck under a tram at around 12.30am.
Fire crews from Chadderton, Hollins and Oldham, and the specialist unit from Ashton were called to the scene, between the Westwood and Freehold Metrolink stops, and used specialist tools to lift the tram from the man.
He was taken by ambulance to the Royal Oldham Hospital with suspected spinal injuries and an investigation into the incident has been launched.
A Transport for Greater Manchester spokesman said: “There was an incident involving a tram and a mobility scooter.
“Emergency services were called and Metrolink services were affected for a time.
“We will be investigating the incident with the operator, MRDL, and as such it’s not appropriate to comment any further until that has been done.”
