Freddie meets Oldham mascot Chaddy the Owl.
THE wish of a young Latics fan to become a matchday mascot was granted days before his eighth birthday.
Freddie Hulley touched the hearts of football fans everywhere when his handwritten note arrived - without a full name and address - at the club in July, pleading to be mascot for the day. A hunt finally unearthed the boy.
And on Saturday his dream came true when the Blackshaw Lane primary school pupil led out the teams for Oldham’s clash with Scunthorpe United.
Freddie’s mum Lois Tennant (32), said: “I love that the club had the consideration to try to find him. Other clubs might just have put the letter in the bin.”
The only person more ecstatic than Freddie - who plays for Heyside Under-Eights - was dad Paul, a Latics supporter since he was four.
Paul (33) said: “He’s really made up. Hopefully he’ll be playing for us one day.”
