Just what we Wanted

PUPILS were glad they came when Nathan Sykes — former member of boy band The Wanted — turned up at their school to perform live.
Nathan (22) is preparing to release his second solo single after The Wanted split in 2014. The world-famous group had eight top-five singles and two platinum-selling albums and became the most successful UK boy band in America in 2012 when their track “Glad You Came” reached number five in the charts.
Nathan — who was the band’s youngest member — took time out of his busy schedule to visit Chadderton’s Newman RC College, Broadway and other schools across the country to encourage pupils to take up music as a subject and to also pursue a career in the industry.
During his visit to Chadderton, Nathan performed to a select number of students and chatted with them.
“I think people can often be deterred from chasing a career in music,” he said. “Young people are easily put off because they don’t think they’re talented enough. I’m here to encourage people to stick with music. If you work hard enough, you’ll get where you want to be. Look at me, I’m just a random kid from Gloucester. It is possible.”
