THE fire was in a flat above shops in Lord Lane
A MAN died following a fire at a flat above a shop in Failsworth in the early hours of Saturday.
Crews from Hollins, Chadderton and Philips Park were called to the property in Lord Lane at 6.30am.
Officers found the 38-year-old man not breathing and did CPR. The man was confirmed dead on arrival at hospital.
Alan Ashworth, station manager at Hollins, said: “The flat was heavily smokelogged and a joint investigation between ourselves and the police will now take place as to the cause of the fire.”
The alleyway behind the row of shops was sealed off for most of Saturday as fire crews worked to make sure surrounding properties were safe.
