We won’t be rushed on Hotel Future - McMahon

OLDHAM Council’s Cabinet has confirmed it remains committed to building Oldham’s Hotel Future project.

The hotel, next to the Queen Elizabeth Hall, will create 110 new jobs and boost the Oldham economy by around £4.7 million a year.

The hotel had been due to open earlier this year, but the Queen Elizabeth Hall is to remain open until spring 2016 and council officers are investigating ways to use it to generate income for the hotel.

Discussions have continued with Hotel Future on the creation of the UK’s first hospitality training academy at the hotel, to increase the local economy and job training opportunities.

Oldham Council leader Jim McMahon said: “I feel as though this is taking a long time to get off the ground. It has been going on for a while, but that is the right way to do it. Let’s not rush this through; it needs to be done properly.”
