Pool to close
Date published: 27 October 2015
GLODWICK Pool will close next month as Oldham’s new sports centre gets an official opening date.
The decision to close the Nugget Street pool was made in 2012 after it was found £76,000 was needed for improvements. A financial review for 2009-10 showed the pool lost almost £53,000 from 39,762 visitors, making it the least-used pool in the borough.
Glodwick Pool, Crompton Pool, Royton Sports Centre and Oldham Sports Centre are closing, to be replaced by new leisure centres in Royton (already open) and Oldham, which opens on November 18.
Pupils and staff from Horton Mill Primary School, which uses Glodwick Pool for swimming lessons, have launched a petition against the closure since it doesn’t have transport to get to the new Oldham centre.
