NEW branch of the Royal British Legion . . . Councillor Steve Bashforth and Jeff Vernon have worked to launch a Royton branch
ROYTON will mark Remembrance Day with its own, newly formed branch of the Royal British Legion.
Royton’s Jeff Vernon, Jimmy Burns and Councillor Steven Bashforth decided to set up the local branch after noticing a growing community desire.
Members of the public can help to celebrate the launch at a free buffet with entertainment at Royton Cricket Club.
Mr Vernon, who served in the Army during the early 1960s, said: “I have always hoped we could get a Royton branch started again. Interest has grown to the point where I feel we should make it happen.”
Visitors do not have to have been in the service and all are welcome at the event from noon.
