A tight squeeze for children, parents and buggies as they attempt to get past cars on the pavement.
PROPOSED legislation aimed at strengthening the law on pavement parking has been withdrawn.
The Pavement Parking Private Members’ Bill proposed to allow parking on pavements specially designated for the purpose, making it the exception rather than the rule. The withdrawal, before its second reading in Parliament, follows a commitment from the Government to undertake a policy review and examine the implications of a legislative change.
Only last week, Oldham Council hit out at irresponsible, selfish and dangerous parking on pavements close to schools and elsewhere in the borough. The authority had been calling on motorists to consider the safety of other road users and curb bad parking habits.
