Betty serves up the last lunch
Date published: 11 December 2015
THE last hot meal has been taken out of the oven at Beulah Lunch Club in Hollinwood.
After five years at the helm, serving lunches every Tuesday, 80-year-old Betty Meredith has called it a day — and the club bowed out with a special Christmas feast at Beulah Baptist Church.
Betty took on the cook’s task after cutbacks meant Age Concern were unable to carry on providing weekly hot meals.
“I’m a baker so i did have some experience, but I’m not exactly a chef,” Betty joked.
“I have really enjoyed it and I have two ladies who work with me and two others who help serve, but both have been taken ill recently so it has become difficult.”
