Carol singers scam
Date published: 15 December 2015
HOLLINWOOD residents are being warned of a group of boys posing as carol singers.
Father David Hawthorne of St Margaret’s Church has received calls from elderly residents who were visited by the group at the weekend.
The boys specifically target the elderly, claiming to be carol singers from St Margaret’s Church and asking for money.
He said: “It’s a bit sick really. In previous years we have gone to old folks’ homes and to pubs but we never go door-to-door. I’ve never heard of other churches doing that either. I can categorically say we have nobody doing that in our name. These are chancers knocking on doors and thinking they will make a couple of quid.”
Anyone with information should call Father David on 0161-681 4541 or police on 101.
