NEW MP: Jim McMahon
OLDHAM Council leader Jim McMahon has confirmed the date of his final day in the role.
Councillor McMahon was elected as the new MP for Oldham West and Royton after winning a by-election on December 3, causing him to step down as a councillor. Wednesday’s council meeting was his last as council leader.
He confirmed yesterday that his final day as council leader will be January 15, though he will remain a councillor for the time being..
He said: “Labour Group members will elect a new leader in the New Year. I will continue as a ward councillor - without an allowance - for my home ward of Failsworth East beyond January 15. I’ll review it next year.”
