POLICE speak to a motorist illegally parked
OLDHAM Council and the police have fined 35 motorists for parking illegally outside a Chadderton secondary school.
Officers and enforcement staff attended The Radclyffe School in Hunt Lane after complaints about parking at school times.
The council’s enforcement car caught 35 motorists parking on zig-zag markings outside the school.
Councillor Dave Hibbert, Oldham Council’s Cabinet member for housing, planning and transport, said: “Irresponsible parents, carers and taxi drivers are the main reason why we have parking problems outside schools. It’s an extremely difficult issue for the council to resolve.
“Inconsiderate parking outside schools is a national issue. We’re doing as much as we can to address the problem here in Oldham but we’re limited in what we can do.
“It is worrying that some parents want to park as close to the school entrance as possible, with little regard for the safety of others — including their own children.”
