Peace garden to get water feature

A peace garden designed by primary school pupils is to get an addition, thanks to a donation from the Rotary Club of Saddleworth.
St Anne’s Lydgate primary school unveiled its novel garden in July, offering a calm place of reflection and a multi-sensory, educational environment for pupils. The garden has a friendship area, a reading area and space to plant wildflowers, which are supervised by the school’s gardening club.
Now a water feature is to be installed after pupils Imogen Payton, Grace Marshall and James Lomas impressed the Rotary Club with a presentation to secure the money.
Barbara Howse, the club’s vice-president elect visited the school with treasurer David Howse and past presidents John Ainley and Doug Greenwood to donate £500.
Barbara said: “We were so impressed by the children’s presentation we decided to donate £500, which is a lot more than we usually give to one project.”
The overall cost will be £900. Events will be held to raise the remainder.
