Recycling
OLDHAM is in the bottom third of North West councils for recycling household waste.
The council came 27th out of 39 councils for the percentage of waste recycled in 2014/15. Oldham is currently reusing, recycling or composting 37 per cent of the borough’s household waste. The EU target for the UK is at least 50 per cent by 2020.
The borough produced 73,130 tonnes of household waste in 2014/15, 27,043 tonnes of which were recycled. Hyndburn council was the worst in the region with only 34 per cent recycled. Seven of the region’s councils, led by Trafford on 62 per cent, have already exceeded the 2020 expectation.
