Field of dreams

COUNCIL chiefs hope plans to transform abandoned land into football pitches after 15 years will prove a winner.
The fields behind Higher Lime Road, Limehurst Village, were originally used as sports pitches until 2001. The council hopes to restore three pitches, two senior and one youth, as well as a clubhouse, car park and perimeter fencing. One of the pitches would have floodlights and a shelter for spectators.
Proposals arose following the council’s successful planning application for a residential-led development scheme at the Lancaster Club off Broadway in Failsworth. The new scheme will replace pitches lost in that scheme
When the plans were first suggested in 2014, some residents said the area had become a peaceful place since pitches stopped being used and it would be nice to keep it that way.
