Danger dog to be put down

A DANGEROUS dog that has attacked pets in Hollins will be put down after attacking another dog and its owner.
Police were called to Colenso Street on Sunday afternoon after beng told a Jack Russell and a man were being attacked by a white American bulldog.
The owner escaped with a minor bite to his finger, but his pet had to be rushed to the vet. The out-of-control dog was seized by police. The Chronicle reported last month how the dog was attacking other pets, leading to residents and Oldham Council to call for a change in the law. Police at the time said no action could be taken as the dog had previously only attacked other animals. The dog is believed to have attacked at least five other dogs.
Oldham councillor Barbara Brownridge said: “It’s awful it had to take a man being bitten before the authorities could take action.
“It only becomes an offence when a human is bitten. This dog has bitten a man, which has enabled the authorities to take action. “I have contacted all three MPs as this loophole needs to be addressed.”
