£600,000 winter warmer to help cancer patients
Date published: 15 February 2016
Macmillan Cancer Support is celebrating a massive £600,000 boost, raised with the help of staff from National Grid’s Hollinwood base.
And local worker Mark Hodgkinson, earned a special award for his mammoth fundraising efforts after raising £6,000 with two comedy nights and a charity football match between staff from two regions.
Mark was just one of many fundraisers from across the country who harnessed their enthusiasm to organise and run numerous events to smash their half a million pound target.
The enormous figure funds the two-year Power to the People partnership between the two organisations to support people living with cancer and their families.
The cash will be used to pay for 3,121 emergency fuel grants to help people struggling to heat their homes. During 2014 Macmillan provided 35 such grants in the Hollinwood and Oldham area.
