AN 11-YEAR-OLD boy was rescued after getting stuck up to his waist in mud while playing in a former tip with friends.
They raised the alarm at around 3pm yesterday when firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene near Wilkes Street, Sholver.
They used shovels and a rope to release the boy who was struck for around 40 minutes. He was checked over by paramedics and a doctor from Oldham Mountain Rescue Team, which was called as standby, before being taken to the Royal Oldham Hospital as a precaution.
Mountain rescue team leader Mick Neild said: “He was cold and wet but quite cheerful.”
