AN inspirational group of fund raisers raised more than £3,000 walking 170 miles from Oldham to Bristol in memory of a three-year-old girl who died of cancer.
The challenge marked 10 years since the death of Bristol toddler Molly-Ann Smith, who lost her battle with a rare form of cancer on Christmas day, 2005.
The determined group battled tough conditions and blisters for five days to make it from the Royal Oldham Hospital to Bristol. They arrived on January 9 – Molly’s birthday.
Molly’s cousin Ryan Grady (29), who lives in Heyside, was joined by Becky Holt, Sean Grady and Gerry Grady for the entire walk. He said: “It’s been an amazing journey and It was tough on some days, but I’d do it again tomorrow if I could.”
The challenge raised £2,088 for children’s cancer charity CLIC Sargent and £1,120 for Hugs From Henry — a charity set up by the parents of Henry Hallam from Plymouth, who is also fighting neuroblastoma, and aims to help others in the same situation.
