A BOY who was knocked down outside Chadderton Wellbeing Centre has had surgery for hip, leg and skull fractures.
The four year old, named on Facebook as Oliver, was left fighting for his life when he was hit by a Vauxhall Astra while crossing Burnley Street with his mother. Rushed to Manchester Children’s Hospital, his condition was described as critical but stable over the weekend.
Oliver’s brother Hayden Crawford posted a picture of the youngster after his surgery on Facebook and said: “Thanks to everyone who’s asked about my brother. He’s doing fine. Doctors say he’ll be in for four weeks.”
The driver tested negative for both drink and drugs and police are appealing for witnesses. Sgt Mark Thomas said: “This appears to be a tragic accident, which occurred when the boy and his mother were attempting to cross the road next to a coach.
“We need more people to come forward to ensure we have a true picture of events. If you were at the scene at the time of the incident, please call the serious collision investigation unit.”
People with information should call 0161-856 4742 or Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800-555 111.
