An air ambulance lands on the motorway to take the lorry driver to hospital
THOUSANDS of commuters were caught up in traffic jams yesterday when a lorry driver died after collapsing at the wheel of his car transporter.
Police had to close the westbound carriageway of the M62 for several hours after the driver crashed yards from the Scammonden Dam, close to junction 23.
The accident involved two lorries, blocking all three lanes of the busy motorway. The 68-year-old man is thought to have lost control after collapsing. He was flown to hospital in an air ambulance.
The westbound carriageway finally reopened at 6.15pm.
