Saddleworth School
A CAMPAIGN to build a new health centre in Saddleworth has been launched by Liberal Democrat councillors.
They are urging Oldham Council and NHS Oldham Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) to consider improving health facilities in the area by building a centre on what will become the former Saddleworth School site in Uppermill.
Saddleworth North Liberal Democrat councillor Garth Harkness said: “The moving of Saddleworth School to Diggle would provide an opportunity to use the land in Uppermill for a positive community investment in health provision.”
The councillors have started a petition to rally support for the proposal, urging Oldham Council to use a a community infrastructure levy and capital spending for the development.
Councillor Harkness said: “We of course expect that there would be a desire to use the site for some housing, too. We would want to see affordable housing to buy and rent on the site along with a new health centre for Saddleworth.” Fellow Lib-Dem parish councillors are supporting the petition.
