Oldham’s £1.7m lotto windfall
Date published: 26 February 2016
MORE than £1.7 million of National Lottery funding was awarded across Oldham last year.
The council was one of the big benefactors, receiving £134,000 to help with the Royton leisure centre project.
St Barnabas Youth Club, which runs every Friday, received £9,509 to help with its running costs.
Rev Paul Monk said: “The youth club costs about £13,000 a year to run and so the lottery fund has practically bankrolled the youth club,”
Mr Monk also credited the Oldham Play Action Group for supplying the staff and activities that have helped make the youth club one of the biggest in the Oldham area with a turnout of 20-35 children a week.
Altogether 42 grants were given out to a wide variety of projects, all of which now have the chance of national acclaim in the National Lottery Awards.
