Villagers fly the flag

Volunteer Gillian Clark managed to pick up some litter in Delph village, wearing her royal paper grown
FRIDAY’s deluge of snow put paid to Saddleworth’s “Clean for the Queen” initiative.
But despite the bad weather Delph villagers turned out to fly the flag and support the event. Oldham and Saddleworth parish councillor Nicola Kirkham joined seven enthusiastic helpers who worked across the village.
She said:”It was a great success despite the weather conditions. Delphers are a tough team!
“It was cold but I was proud the group turned out to serve their community with the clean-up operation. Unfortunately, ice on the ground made our job difficult — so we decided to use the opportunity to clear pavements of ice for residents instead.
“It is lovely to do something positive for your community and it was nice to hear the thank you comments from the locals.”
The event is likely to be rescheduled soon
One of the events called off was a clean up organised by Greenfield’s Street Scene team, part of the Greenfield and Grasscroft Residents Association.
The two-hour litter pick is to be rescheduled and interested parties will be informed of the new date after the group’s meeting.
