OLDHAM will join millions across the globe in marking International Women’s Day.
The day is held on March 8 to celebrate women’s achievements throughout history. From women’s suffrage to equal parenting and representation in politics, International Women’s Day has been marking the social, cultural, economic and political achievements of women for more than 100 years.
This year, the organisers of IWD are asking supporters to #PledgeForParity to help to achieve gender parity more quickly.
Today, Aksa Homes has invited its female tenants to attend an event at Oldham Coliseum, from 10am-2pm. There will be guest speakers, a tour of the building, various workshops, and an afternoon tea.
Tomorrow, Oldham Trades Council is hosting its annual general meeting open to the public from 6-8pm.
The event will feature speakers such as actress Jeni Howarth-Williams and live music. There will be a large book in which people can sign to support a pledge for parity in the workplace and local community.
