OLDHAM councillor Arooj Shah has been appointed chair of a new network for Labour Party women from ethnic minorities.
Labour BAME Women North-West was launched on Saturday at the Eastern Pavilion on Featherstall Road South, Oldham.
Labour BAME (black, asian and minority ethnic) women is a network of Labour women from ethnic minorities who promote and support each other in public life.
Oldham West and Royton MP Jim McMahon, Ashton MP Angela Rayner and Greater Manchester police and crime commissioner and interim mayor Tony Lloyd were present at the event.
Councillor Shah, who stood for Oldham Council leader earlier this year, said: “This new group is an opportunity to give BAME women a bigger voice, not just within the Labour Party but beyond.”
