AN 18-year-old Latics fan is in hospital with severe leg injuries caused by a gang of six Sheffield United supporters after the teams clashed on the field.
The young fan said he and five friends were outside Sheffield’s main train station on March 12 when around six Sheffield United fans attacked them from behind at around 5pm.
The Latics fan was rushed to the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, where it was found he had a broken foot, a chipped leg bone and a dislocated ankle.
A relative said: “He has told us he and his friends were minding their own business outside the station after walking from the ground. He remembers being punched to the head from behind and falling. When he came round his leg hurt really badly and had to go to hospital. He assures us he did nothing to provoke anyone.”
The following day the young victim was transferred to the Royal Oldham Hospital, where he remains.
South Yorkshire Police has confirmed officers are investigating the assault
