Backing for Annie memorial
Date published: 25 March 2016
MEMORIALS could be erected in Oldham to suffragette Annie Kenney and the victims of the Peterloo Massacre.
Councillors agreed to investigate funding sources to highlight the role women have played in fighting for fairness and equality.
Labour Councillor Elaine Garry proposed the motion. She said: “Significant events involving ordinary people should be remembered just as much, if not more, that those who were born with a silver spoon in their mouth.
“We need to remember that ordinary people can go on to achieve great things. If one person looks at these memorials and is inspired, then the cost can be justified.”
