Families evacuated as power fault hits homes
Date published: 25 March 2016
FAMILIES were evacuated last night when smoke was spotted coming from a pavement in Fitton Hill.
Homes were left without gas and electricity when part of The Spur was cordoned off. Firefighters from Hollins Station were called around 10pm
An electrical fault in an underground cable is believed to have caused the smoke.
Watch Commander Tony Morgan said: "We think the electrical cables were burning. We evacuated five houses and cordoned off the area.
“We also contacted National Grid and North-West electricity to make the area safe. They were there overnight.”
