Chadderton resident Neil Whyatt finds what is left of the postbox in Queen’s Road after thieves struck
A POST box in Chadderton is the latest stolen in a spate of post box thefts.
Alan Wilde, who lives in Broadway, contacted the Chronicle after finding the damaged box in Queen’s Road.
“The newsagent said vandals had been at it; the door had been levered off. They must have been walking around with a crow bar.”
Three post boxes in Saddleworth and two in Mossley were snatched by thieves in early February, while in Shaw there was an attempted box theft, which required the box to be removed.
A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “We apologise to customers for the inconvenience and will always look to replace stolen boxes, providing it is practical to do so.
“We treat all theft of mail and of postboxes extremely seriously and if anyone has any information about this theft, they should contact the police immediately.”
