OUT with the old . . . an engineer begins work replacing cables
A MAJOR effort to improve the electricity supply to around 15,700 homes and businesses in Oldham is under way.
Electricity North West — which maintains the regional network — will invest £1.7m in new and improved underground cabling in sections between Gateway Crescent in Chadderton, and Langley, Middleton. The work, which will take the whole summer, will replace cables up to 50 years old.
Tim Groom, head of major projects for Electricity North-West, said: “This essential project will help secure the supply of electricity to local residents and businesses for many years to come.”
Some temporary traffic lights will apply at various times along the route.
