Caring school in diabetes honour

A ROYTON school has received a special award for going above and beyond in their care of two diabetic pupils.

St Anne’s School, Broadway, has been awarded the Good Diabetes Care in School award from national charity Diabetes UK for supporting students Rocque Prescott and Ayesha Javid.

Rocque (7) and Ayesha (8) have type one diabetes and need daily insulin injections.

The school was nominated after introducing measures to support the pair, including a dedicated diabetes-trained teaching assistant and helping them administer their own injections as they move towards secondaary school.

The nomination was submitted by the children’s parents and Janet Mawdsley, a specialist diabetes nurse with Oldham children’s community nursing team.

Stuart Vaughan, from Diabetes UK, visited St Anne’s this week to present the school with a special glass trophy and certificate.
