Emma’s lecture honour

MAKING international waves . . . Dr Emma Young

A UNIVERSITY Campus Oldham lecturer has been invited to speak at an international conference in Spain.

Dr Emma Young will present her findings at the international seminar on “Gender and Short Fiction: Women’s Tales in Contemporary Britain”.

Others speakers at the University of Santiago de Compostela next week include Scottish author Janice Galloway and lecturers from France, Spain and Germany.

Dr Young (27), who teaches academic skills at UCO, has a longstanding interest in this area of research.

After her degree she undertook an MA degree specialising in modern and contemporary literature.

She has also published journal articles and won prizes for her work on the Irish-Canadian writer Emma Donoghue, co-edited a collection of essays on British women’s short-story writing from 1900 to the present and is currently developing her PhD research as a book.

Her latest publication is “British Women Short Story Writers: the New Woman to Now”.

It is the first time at Dr Young (27) has been invited to speak at a conference, rather than applying to take part: “It’s a great honour for me and UCO. It’s a good way to get your ideas out there and to get feedback.”
