TWO drug dealers have been jailed after being caught red-handed by police officers who stopped them when they smelled cannabis coming from their car.
Azhar Iqbal (31), of Savoy Street, Glodwick, was sentenced to three years and four months in prison after pleading guilty at Manchester Crown Court to two counts of possession with intent to supply heroin and cocaine.
Mohammed Jahangir Bashir (44), of Prospect Place, Ashton, was jailed for seven years after being found guilty of similar charges.
Officers from Greater Manchester Police’s tactical vehicle intercept unit stopped the two men on Lees Road, Oldham last September.
After noticing a strong smell of cannabis from their vehicle, officers from Oldham’s organised crime team took them in for a drugs search. They found cocaine, heroin, crack cocaine and cannabis.
A search of their homes discovered drug equipment implicating them in the supply of controlled drugs.
Det Cons Michelle Lomax from GMP’s Oldham organised crime team said: “Mohammed Bashir and Azhar Iqbal were heavily involved in supplying controlled drugs throughout the local area.”
