White-out misery for workers
Date published: 29 April 2016
THICK snow and thunderstorms blasted Oldham and Saddleworth overnight as the unseasonal flurry continued this morning.
This week’s weather is believed to be the latest snowfall in April for more than a decade.
A woman was injured after her car finished up on its roof in an incident on the A62 Oldham-Huddersfield road towards Delph yesterday at around 7pm.
And early morning travellers today struggled to work as snow, coming in on much lower levels from the hills, caused hazardous conditions.
This morning the A640 Nont Sarah’s Denshaw to Huddersfield road was closed after heavy snowfalls in Yorkshire caused major problems.
The snow persisted into the morning rush hour with commuters experiencing delays.
Oldham Council’s head of highways, Craig Dale, said: “Gritters have been out throughout the night. The latest snow band hit us around 5.30am with more intensity and to much lower levels than forecast.”
There were no public transport services reported as being stopped this morning but the 184 service, heading for Huddersfield, terminated at Uppermill and Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) warned of delays on other routes.
