YEAR 4 pupils ready for action as the Coppice Academy clean-up gets into full swing.
SEVERAL grubby grot spots have featured in the Oldham Chronicle in recent weeks.
But pupils at Coppice Primary Academy decided to do something after a walk around their local area revealed an astonishing amount of litter and fly tipping.
Members of the school's eco team and children's council completed an audit with the charity Living Streets and were appalled by what they found in the unadopted Langham Road.
So they sprung into action by writing to the mayor to highlight the problem and asking local companies for their help, which resulted in two providing skips.
Just over 100 children from throughout the school took part in a clean up - including all pupils in Year 4 who are learning about the environment.
One skip was filled - and the other one is getting there - with everything from broken furniture, toys and even a bike.
Head teacher John Taylor said: "The road might be unadopted and uncared for, but we have decided to foster it. The children are determined to make a difference in their community."
