A BIRD rescue sanctuary is trying to reunite a missing budgerigar with its owner.
The small, long-tailed common pet is being cared for at Oldham's Rainbow Bird Rescue after it lost its bearings and found its way into a resident's garden.
A man who lives in the Moston area handed the seed-eating parrot over to the registered charity in Barmouth Court, Hollinwood, on Wednesday.
The bird has distinctive green and yellow colouring, with black and blue incorporated in its feathers and is believed to be female.
Founder Debbie Dwyer, pictured with the bird, said: "The budgie must have an owner because it looks quite healthy.
"She is a beautiful bird and has done nothing but eat since she came to us.
"In the summer time, people leave their windows open, birds escape, and often they are caught by magpies, so this one has been very lucky.
"It might be an older person who lives on their own and they are now really worried.
"We just hope we can find the rightful owner."
The rescue charity was set up in September 2015 after Debbie rescued a male Kakariki, an endangered parrot, from a 'cold, dark garage'.
